Is a Lip Flip a Dupe for Lip Filler?

Before undergoing any cosmetic procedure, it’s crucial to have an open and thorough discussion with your provider. This ensures that you’re well-informed and able to make the appropriate decisions.

Lip Flips and Lip Fillers are not the same thing. Let’s take a deeper look to compare the two.

Lip Filler

  • Substance Used: Hyaluronic acid filler.
  • Purpose: Adds volume, enhances appearance, gives fuller more hydrated looking lips, and augments the shape. It can also help create a more symmetrical appearance.
  • Procedure: Injections of filler into the lips. This procedure usually takes about 30 minutes. Results are immediate with potential for minor swelling for 48 hours after the injection.
  • Duration: Typically lasts 6-12 months, sometimes longer.
  • Benefits: Can significantly change the shape and volume of the lips to achieve your desired results.
  • Considerations: Results are more dramatic and customizable. There is a risk of some swelling and bruising immediately after the procedure however it will be minimized by using a cannula.
  • Cost: Based on the number of syringes used.

Lip Flip

  • Substance Used: Neuromodulators such as Botox® or Dysport®
  • Purpose: Maintains the original shape and volume but provides a slight upturn by relaxing the muscles around the upper lip.
  • Procedure: Small amounts of neuromodulator are injected into the upper lip vermilion border. This procedure usually takes about 10 minutes. Results take about 2 weeks to take effect.
  • Duration: Typically lasts 2-5 months.
  • Benefits: Subtle enhancement, less invasive, and can be a good option for those not ready for fillers.
  • Considerations: Can affect muscle function if the dose is too high leading to issues pursing lips, sucking from a straw, or drinking from a cup. Using a low dose can help prevent these issues.
  • Cost: Based on the cost per unit.
